【摘要】:Thistestmethodassignsanempiricalvaluetotherelativeamount,fineness,andcharacterofclay-likematerialthatmaybegeneratedinanaggregatewhensubjectedtomechanicaldegradation.TheprocedurehasbeenusedinlimitedgeographicalareasoftheUnitedStatesandtheresultshavebeencorrelatedwithaggregateperformanceinvariousconstructionapplications,including:aggregatebase,permeablematerialforbackfill,fineconcreteaggregate,andriprapforrockslopeprotection.6,7Aminimumdurabilityindexispermittedtobespecifiedtoprohibittheuseofanaggregateinvariousconstructionapplicationsthatispronetodegradation,resultingingenerationofclay-likefines.Thistestmethodprovidesarapidtestforevaluationofthequalityofanewaggregatesource.Researchhasindicateditmayalsobesuitableforuseinsteadofthesodiumsulfatesoundnesstestforevaluatingthedurabilitycharacteristicsoffineaggregateforuseinportland-cementconcrete,therebyreducingtheneedfortime-consumingandexpensivesoundnesstests.6Althoughtheapplicationofthismethodhasbeenlimitedtoaggregatesforspecificconstructionuses,thepossibilityexistsforexpandingtheapplicationofthismethodtocontrolthequalityofaggregatesusedinotherareasofconstruction,suchasaggregatesforuseinbituminouspavingmixtures,coarseaggregateforuseinportland-cementconcrete,andaggregateforuseasrailroadballast.1.1Thistestmethodcoversthedeterminationofadurabilityindexofanaggregate.Thecalculateddurabilityindexisavalueindicatingtherelativeresistanceofanaggregatetoproductionofdetrimentalclay-likefineswhensubjectedtotheprescribedmechanicalmethodsofdegradation.1.2ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thevaluesgiveninparenthesesareforinformationonly.1.3Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
